ECEA 100 - Child Health, Safety and Nutrition
This course focuses on the important aspects of health, safety, and nutrition in the early childhood setting. It will provide the learners with an overview of the role of observation in learning about children, observation techniques, monitoring, and recording skills. With a focus on prevention, students will learn about documenting and reporting illnesses and injuries and enforcing licensing requirement for child care and child protection. They will also learn about nutritional needs for children, how to prepare basic snacks and meals, and about individual child care plans for children who require additional supports. Topics explored include introduction to menu planning; the promotion and modeling of a healthy, safe environment; personal hygiene; standards of cleanliness; preventing the spread of communicable diseases; and supporting the management of chronic health conditions. This course meets the academic requirements necessary to apply for provincial certification for first time applicants.

Grade 12 or mature student status (minimum 19 years of age)

Pass an interview with ULI admissions department.

Completion of grades 9-11, including English 11 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher from a country where English is one of the principal languages, or

Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction, or

Provide verified results, dated no more than two years before the start date of the program, for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below:
